Kai Ken is a Japanese dog breed with ancient roots, belongs to the family of Spitz. This dog is a native of the area Kai,which is considered to be a national treasure of Japan and holds a special place in the history and culture of the country of the Rising Sun: its exports outside the country is strictly prohibited. However, a certain amount of smuggled dogs still were exported abroad.

Kai has been specially bred for hunting in mountainous landscapes on such a large and a serious game like wild boar and deer. Over time, this four-legged hunter became more versatile and now the circle of its "interests" has expanded significantly - it also added to the badger, hare and game birds. Kai is a freedom-loving and quite independent breed, it works fast, accurately and instantly reacts to changing circumstances in the course of work. The dogs usually live for about 12-15 years.

Kai Ken Colors, Shedding, Full Size and Average Weight

Kai is a dog of medium size, it has a harmonious body, with strong muscular limbs, it looks graceful and elegant. Kai Ken has a large head with a broad forehead and a pointed face, dark brown eyes, triangular, erect ears tilted forward with tips, high set tail, coiled or bent in the shape of a sickle. Height at the breed - 45- 55 cm, weight is about 25 kg.

Wool of Kai is short, rigid, it has a straight tail which is long and dense. Color in the breed is red brindle, black-brindle or red mask. And kai puppies are born dark, and only a month later they get their"personal" color.
